Sandeep Shikre’s journey to becoming a renowned architect began with a boyhood dream of cricket, but he soon realized that architecture was his true calling. “I think architecture is a very noble profession, it’s extremely rewarding,” says Shikre. Founded in 1989 with his wife Alpa in Mumbai, SSA has grown from a two-person firm to an internationally recognized Design & Project management firm with over 300+ employees. SSA’s ethos, ‘Architecture and Beyond,’ signifies a collaborative approach that merges art and engineering to create functional and contextually relevant structures.

Notable projects include the Dandi Memorial, capturing Mahatma Gandhi’s Salt Satyagraha, and Mumbai’s Mudra House, which won the AIT Award-Germany. The revolutionary Kohinoor Square introduced many firsts to the Indian subcontinent, such as jump-form shuttering and unitized curtain walls.

SSA’s ongoing projects, like the urban renewal of Mahim Bay and a commercial complex for Kirloskars, reflect their dedication to sustainability, with over 8 million sq ft of green-certified designs. Shikre emphasizes, “Architecture is space, people, and happiness. At the end of the day, you are designing for the people, so your architecture has to be people-centric.” This visionary approach is what sets SSA apart and continues to inspire innovation in architecture.
