Located in the heart of a dense, industrial area of Kanjurmarg, Mumbai, this quarry gallery offers a striking juxtaposition of nature’s timeless beauty and urban surroundings. The design seeks to reflect how these precious stone blocks are painstakingly carved from the mountains, symbolizing strength and rugged beauty. Challenges, such as uneven flooring, noise from the neighboring automobile service center, and the heat from the corrugated roof, were carefully addressed to create a space that allows the product to truly shine. A significant portion of the space is devoted to the sales gallery, with a small office area carved out for operational use. The space itself aims to echo the raw power of the quarry, offering a raw yet refined experience.

Avadhut Kadu, Ashwoni gandhi, Dashrath Redij & Bhavana KhilareThe gallery’s design redefines expectations by incorporating air conditioning and carpeting into a space, a first of its kind in India. The layout was meticulously crafted according to retail science principles, positioning marble slabs in such a way that the space feels more expansive than it is. The massive metal sliding door at the entrance gives visitors an immediate sense of scale, preparing them for the grandeur inside.
Once inside, the reception desk becomes a statement piece: a sculptural stone block that seemingly floats in mid-air, adding a sense of elegance and surprise. The design continues with the director's cabin, where a monolithic rock-like form creates a sculptural backdrop, allowing natural light to filter through the cut-out to illuminate the office. The design emphasizes the connection between natural elements and sleek, modern functionality.
Key elements in the gallery, such as the ceiling, wall treatments, and lighting, are designed to highlight the stones while creating a comfortable, immersive atmosphere. Large 4-meter stone slabs are installed in a visually striking book match style, enhancing the space’s inherent beauty. The ceiling features a white canopy with automated skylights that adjust at the touch of a button to control the natural light pouring into the space. These skylights, when partially open, ensure the gallery remains bright during daylight hours, without needing artificial light.
The entire space is automated: doors, lighting, and even air conditioning are triggered by sensors, further elevating the gallery's modern appeal. The engineered metal canopy was selected for its precision and lightweight properties, providing a sleek aesthetic that complements the stones below. The lighting design was carefully crafted to simulate daylight even in the evening, ensuring the showroom is well-lit and welcoming at all times, with subtle adjustments made for optimal effect. Every element is integrated seamlessly into the space, allowing visitors to experience the stones in their full glory.
The gallery’s design integrates the movement of the marble slabs, which is facilitated by a crane that smoothly glides across the space, providing both function and an additional design element. This seamless integration of technology allows the gallery to showcase the marbles effortlessly while maintaining its sophisticated aesthetic.
The clean, white walls act as a neutral backdrop, emphasizing the natural beauty of the stones. Graphic messages and brand reinforcement are subtly integrated into the entrance walls, ensuring the space communicates its identity without overpowering the product. Inside the director's cabin, customized, sleek furniture complements the overall minimalist design.
Ultimately, the gallery blends nature’s artistry with advanced technology, creating a refined and timeless showcase that honors both design and craftsmanship.
