MCA Cricket Museum

The Living Legacy of
Cricket

Set within the iconic Wankhede Stadium complex, the MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket Museum unfolds as a spatial tribute to Mumbai’s enduring cricketing legacy. Spanning 8,000 sq. ft., the museum is conceived as an immersive and experiential journey tracing the evolution of the Mumbai Cricket Association since 1935.

Rather than operating as a static archive of memorabilia, the space transforms cricketing history into a dynamic narrative — weaving together stories, milestones and moments that celebrate the legends, passion and spirit of the game.

A Journey Through
Legacy

The visitor experience begins with statues of Shri Sharad Pawar and Sunil Gavaskar, establishing a ceremonial threshold rooted in reverence and institutional memory. From here, the museum unfolds through a carefully curated sequence of thematic zones the Evolution of Cricket, the MCA History Wall, and the Ranji Trophy Gallery commemorating 42 championship titles.

Dedicated galleries such as the Coats of Honour and the Hall of Fame, featuring icons like Sachin Tendulkar, situate individual achievement within the collective legacy of Mumbai cricket. Installations highlighting Wankhede Stadium and India’s World Cup triumphs anchor personal milestones within larger national narratives.

Interactive Engagement & Collective Memory

Beyond observation, the museum integrates immersive environments including the Cricket Theatre and Quiz Arena, encouraging participation across generations. These interactive zones introduce contemporary modes of storytelling, allowing visitors to engage with cricket’s legacy beyond display cases.

The journey culminates at the Dr. H. D. Kanga Memorial Library , A contemplative spatial pause that balances energy with reflection, ensuring the experience is not only informative but deeply resonant.

Heritage, Reimagined

The design unfolds as a choreographed spatial progression, maintaining openness while preserving narrative focus. Drawing from a colonial architectural vocabulary, the space incorporates refined mouldings, graceful arches and rich timber detailing that recall the elegance of cricket’s formative years.

This historic sensibility is grounded in a tactile palette of polished wood, copper accents and black stone flooring, layered with deep navy and warm neutral tones. Subtle ambient lighting combined with precise accent illumination highlights artefacts and digital installations, seamlessly blending heritage character with contemporary exhibition design.
